Short introduction.
After being arrived in sharehouse and have met my housemate, I had to wait 3 days (til Monday) for start the research of farm job.
Fiona, the owner of 11 sharehouse in Mareeba, find us a lift from two korean girls and in early morning (woke up at 5:30am) we went to the first farm, the biggest: Howe farm.

From the CITY into the WILD

Short introduction.
My flight was on Thursday 5th of April from Melbourne Tullamarine and I arrived in Cairns at 7pm. From the Airport I getting in city center by bus and started to looking for a hostel ('cause I didn't booked anyone, like a real backpacker ahahah).

Cairns is pretty nice, it remember me a little bit Viareggio, in Toscany: it is small, close to the sea and lot of beaches in all sourround. That night I was lucky because in Esplanade there were live music so I enjoyed my time.

The morning of 6th April I had the bus to Mareeba at 8:45am from Cairns central.
One hour and half to get there. This means that is very very very very far away from civilizations.

It is official: I'll go to Cairns!!
I think that the city of Melbourne has gave me neither a taste of the real Australia and for this reason I'll take another direction.
I need to change my lifestyle, I'm sure that Australia is full of opportunities and I cannot stop myself here in the city! Melbourne is big and crazy and I like it, probably I'll come back.
Now I need something different, that's it.
From Melbourne I bring with me my faults, my silences, my tears, but also my joys, my laughs and the great time spent with great friends.

"Bye bye Melbourne, I'll come back later! "

So my next destination will be Cairns!! :DD I'm ready like the first time from Milan to Melbourne ahahah is a new restart in all the ways. Melbourne was my trial, Cairns will be my revenge!
New places, new friends, new jobs (pretty sure farms, never thought about it when I was in Italy).

For this trip I bought a big backpack like a real backpacker around the world ahahah and now I'm waiting for Thursday 5th April.

Yesterday was Easter and I spent it with friends. It was very strange because was the first time that I celebrated Easter not in family. Or better: not with my OWN family but with another kind of family:):)  A family made by emotional bond, not by blood. A temporary family because nothing is sure here and have fun in those moments is the better way to take care of your heart.

This is another kind of family :) :)

Gosh, is only one month and half that I'm here, it seems passed so much time.
And I haven't seen anything yet!! xD xD

We lost a JOB in a hopeful place

Weekly post!
Bad news -.- I am fired from DOC pizza e mozzarella. I'm again without a job.
It's not a big deal, I think that everythings happen for a reason. In this period I felt vey very confused so this is like a sign. I've been here in Melbourne one month and half, but everything is like blocked.

When I was in Italy I didn't thought that everything in here should be ok, I was prepared to fall down, but also to restart from my ashes.
And maybe my next step will be not in Melbourne.
I think to move me away from the city (as I said two post ago), probably Queensland (cause autumn and winter are coming and the north is warmer than south), probably farms.
Who know? Maybe I'll come back in Melbourne in its summer and looking for internships or attend the motion graphics course by Jumbla Academy. I will never stop myself to say that everything change here. We must have flexibles minds and take the best from people we meet and spend time with.

I had my check out from the hostel on friday 23rd because the Grand Prix. I slept at friends house for 2 night and then I came back here (now I'm in the hostel). It was pretty strange left the hostel because in here I shared so much experience with other guys and backpackers, so I felt a little bit sad. Hostel's life could be funny, but when you see everyone leaving it, a lot of column around you fall down and you must restart again.

In all this chaos there was a joy: on friday evening I went to an argentinian party for a friend's birthday (Matias, 29years old). It was very funny, I love latin music and latin party ahahah

Please be patience with me, next week I'll try to be not so sad and not to repeat my feelings about bonds with other guys here ahahah

We found a JOB in a hopeful place

HALO! :):)

What happened this week?

I was very very worried about job and how to find it, were three weeks that I’m looking around CBD and suburbs (Fitzroy, Carlton, South Melbourne, Brunswick and others) but no one answer.

I thought also to move me around (Geelong for example), but finally on Monday I received a call from DOC Pizza e Mozzarella, in Carlton. They asked me if I was available for a trial on Tuesday evening and obviously I said “YES, PLEASE GIVE ME A JOB!!”  xD

So I went to Carlton and I had my second trial after two weeks. It wasn’t so bad :)

They called me the day after and they gave me another chance on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at lunch.

I think I’m in the team because the manager sends me my work’s hours for this week.

I’m so proud of myself ahahah

On Friday I went to St Kilda beach as well. The sunset was very beautiful.

(I know that last week I already posted a sunset photo, but no one is the same as others, believe me)

I don’t know what will happen in next days, weeks or months, but when you see those colours nothing matters. Here doesn’t exist any plan, you just have to live day by day.

I’ve renew my accommodation in Greenhouse Backpackers, til 23rd Friday, meanwhile I’m looking for a share house or room for rent.

This is AUSTRALIA

One more week is passed.
Lot of cahos and new things was happened:) First of all I knew a girl who's come from Gandino.. you know, Gandino!! There are twenty minutes by car between Albino (me) and Gandino (she), but we're never met in Italy ahahah
Also thankfully to this girl I started to talk more easily with other people.. I think I needed a mate to talk and have fun with, before open myself with whoever.

Unfortunatly no news about works or jobs here in Melbourne, but I know that all will be better.
I went to Brighton beach on saturday 3rd march with lot of other guys (italians, french, argentinian and from New Zeland too) to have fun, and I think I needed it. New people, new places, laughing and speaking english. And especially stop to being lonely!

Those meetings, those bonds, those new people who come in our life are the best news of the week. The best news and the worst at the same time because are people that maybe you'll not see even more. You have just the time to know their stories, drink a beer together and the next day they disappear from your life. Forever.
This is pretty sad, but this is also Australia I think.

GREAT expectations

Ok, I'm here in Melbourne from 2 weeks and I neither have found a job. It's not a big deal, I keep think positive!
The title "great expectations" doesn't mean that I was hopeful and all my dreams break down. Talking with a chinese guy, he told me "You are italian!! You should know how to make an AMAZING coffee or a very COOL pizza or whatever"
WTF?? Hey man, I'm not superman.

Those are great expectations I mean -.-

It should makes me happy (obviously I'm proud to be italian), but it set me in a very strange position in which I must can do everything.

Honestly I spent the last two days as tourist ahahahahah visit Melbourne and its hide corner, also some church and have good time walking on riverside.

I'm thinking to change my way, orienting myself in another direction and move me away from the city. Looking for hitch hiking or car sharing and discover the truth Australia:):)

the AUSTRALIAN SUN doesn't FORGIVE

Hey,
this first week is passed like a breath!! I've done the RSA course (4 hours where a pretty strange girl explain us how to serve alcohol and how to denied at who is drunk); after those 4 hours we should make an exam, but everything goes right so... Hey!! Now I can serve alcohol to everyones here in Victoria!! Come on guys and have FUN!! Ahahahahah

"Pussy is the name of the drink, trust me!!"

On thursday I start to leave around my resume (in restaurants and cafè) and one italian restaurant made me do a trial next day (friday).
I wasn't sure about it because the italian manager didn't made me feel relaxed. In fact next night I get out two hours later (5:30pm - 7:30pm) ahahahahah "Maybe we call you back".

After this trial I knew that 400GRADI restaurant is one of the most busy in Melbourne's CBD  xD xD  but to break ice it's ok :):)
Who care? I'm in Melbourne and this is ok ahahah

On saturady I went to the beach (because after this short experience I need relax and sun) but I didn't care about the strong burning australian sun!!  D:
I stayed lying down from 1:30pm to 3:30pm !! D:
I covered myself with sunscreen, believe me, but it wasn't enough...

Now I am at the hostel, afraid from the sunrays and looking on google maps which suburbs I could leave my resume (maybe Fitzory and Carlton).

I think also to looking for farms or wwofing works, but I let you know ;);)

HERE I AM !!

Ok, here I am :):)
I'm arrived on sunday evening in Melbourne Tullamarine's airport (after 20 hours of flying!! D: ).
I took the skybus that brought me to Southern cross station and now I'm at the hostel. Yeah!!

In these first three days I opened a bank account, made the australian phone number, TFN request (to legally work in Australia) and I booked the RSA course (which allows to serve alcohol).

I have some problem with the jetlag, so I wake up at 4am (in Italy are 6pm of the day before, WTF?? ). Do we have dark circles? ahahah

But I am positive and everything goes as it should.

I am in Melbourne right now, and this is enough to make everyhing alright:):)

My next step will be looking for a job as waiter... Don't stop to follow me through my trip!

Be prepared!

Hi mates!
The preparations for my trip to Australia are in progress. I'm working hard to store all my stuff in some boxes and to clean my room (gosh, I bought 6 boxes for all my belongings). Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture to show you the "before" and "after", but hey! I'm a cartoonist! So why can't I draw how my room looked like before?

As you can see there was a lot of books, draws on the wall, frames about my digital draw, comics, DVDs and Blu-ray, paper and albums with projects...
Really in the wardrobe on the right side there are all my clothes, I still have to choose what I bring with me and what stay here xD

This is my update for this week ahah next one will be in live from Melbourne, my first day 16.000km away from my room.

Verso l'infinito e oltre!

Salve a tutti!

Sono mancato per un po' di tempo ma finalmente mi sono schiarito le idee sul mio futuro e soprattutto sui miei PROGETTI futuri!!

Una serie di eventi mi ha portato a prendere la decisione di muovermi e smettere di andare avanti nella convinzione di stare bene dove sto. Detto questo, la risposta che mi sono dato è stata una parola sola: Australia.

Meta tanto desiderata e decantata (ad oggi gennaio 2018 aggiungerei anche un po' mainstream), sembra essere il trampolino di lancio giusto per molti giovani che come me hanno voglia di fare, di muoversi, di scoprire, grazie anche al tipo di visto che mette a disposizione il governo australiano: il Working Holiday Visa.

Perciò sbriga i documenti, paga i bollettini, metti qualcosa da parte e preparati perchè tra 6 mesi sarai a Melbourne!!

Questo 5 mesi e mezzo fa, ora mancano 2 settimane! Ahahahahah

Esattamente il giorno 10 febbraio sarò all'aeroporto di Malpensa a prendere il volo che mi accompagnerà verso il mio futuro. Ormai ci siamo, è davvero un sogno che si sta realizzando.

In questa grande avventura parto con una consapevolezza diversa: so fare un mestiere che è quello del cameriere (grazie alla pazienza dei miei capi in due anni di lavoro), ho imparato un sacco di cose nuove grazie a lezioni private con Giulia Sana (alla quale auguro il meglio) e ovviamente il supporto della mia famiglia non è mancato. Ma ora sono pronto a camminare con le mie gambe, da qui in poi è la vita.

Mi sento come Ash il giorno che ha compiuto 10 anni e parte per il mondo dei pokèmon con il suo Pikachu ahahahahah

Intraprendo questo viaggio con dei buoni proposti (oltre che viaggiare, fare esperienze diverse, conoscere persone nuove e imparare una lingua, che hey hai detto poco ahah) :

_ voglio fare almeno un post a settimana su questo blog dove racconto episodi e quant'altro anche disegnati (sapete vorrei fare il fumettista xD );

_ voglio tenere aggiornata la pagina di instagram (un disegno al giorno, ma non ce la farò mai... ops);

_ voglio postare un video al mese di eventi o viaggi che intraprendo, montato e con animazioni fatte interamente da me (anche questo: testa bassa e lavorare!)

Tutto questo per documentare il viaggio epico che mi aspetta!

CE LA FARANNO I NOSTRI EROI??

 Restate con noi! L'Australian Journey sta per cominciare!!

Ciao a tutti! Lo so non sono stato costante con la pubblicazione di queste illustrazioni a tema "pianeti", ma non mi è riuscito facile riprendere in mano il progetto dopo molti altri lavori che ho portato avanti.

Certo, mi girano in testa altre idee riguardo la Terra, Mercurio e altri, ma non sono sicuro che li realizzerò nell'immediato: lascerei spazio ad altri lavori accantonando temporaneamente questo dei Pianeti.

_ il fumetto si è sviluppato nell'arco di sei mesi a più riprese (scrittura, storyboard e disegno) a causa di svariati impegni lavorativi personali;
_ il fumetto doveva rientrare come partecipante al concorso di Lucca Comix 2015;
_ è stata stampata una copia unica nella quale il nome di Aina era modificato in Genet;
_ complessivamente sono state usate soltanto 6 tonalità di grigio;
_ il personaggio di Aina è nato dopo ispirazioni quali Tiana de “La principessa e il ranocchio”, Anastasia di "Anastasia" e Lupita Nyong'o ;

ORIGINI

Ciao a tutti ragazzi, qui è NickWorks e con questo nuovo post pubblico finalmente online il mio primo fumetto! (quello annunciato nel post precedente, tanto pe' capisse').
E' stato un luungo percorso, ma finalmente a distanza di quasi un anno, questo piccolo progetto vede la luce e sono veramente mega felice!!

Ho in cantiere la sceneggiatura di una nuova storia avvincente che svilupperò in quattro volumi (ma che lascia aperte parecchie porte a ipotetici spin-off) e dopo questo non-troppo-breve periodo di fermo, sono pronto a ripartire in quarta!

Aina, protagonista di ORIGINI, porge le sue scuse per il deplorevole ritardo causato dall'autore.

Okay, sono in ritardo di parecchie cose. Devo recuperare quattro mesi di assenza ahah. è stato un periodo trascorso abbastanza a rilento: un tira e molla, disegno e non-disegno, tante idee e poco tempo alternato a periodi di improduttività. MEA CULPA.

Ho vissuto un momentaccio a gennaio (vedi post "Nothing changed at all") e da lì non mi sono più mosso.
Ora che sta tornando il buon umore e la voglia di fare spero di essere più presente e costante nel mio lavoro.

Piccola notifica: ho terminato il mio primo fumetto (olèèèè). Sono 38 tavole interamente in digitale.

Sinossi.

"Grazie ad un programma di adozione internazionale, Aina si è trasferita e vive in Italia dall’età di sette anni. Ora ne ha ventisei ed è una giovane donna in carriera sballottata a destra e a sinistra dalla sua stessa quotidianità.
Nella vita che è riuscita a costruirsi non manca niente, ma nasconde una profonda malinconia nei confronti della sua tribù e di sua madre, con la quale intrattiene un rapporto fatto di lettere e fotografie. La madre vede così crescere la figlia foto dopo foto e una sera decide di farle un grande regalo: attraverso un’antica preghiera masai, Aina vestirà di nuovo le sue origini e come per magia i colori si paleseranno agli occhi dei colleghi e degli amici.
ORIGINI è un fumetto che segue passo dopo passo una classica giornata di Aina, diventata ignara ambasciatrice della sua stessa tribù in una città grigia e povera di spunti."

Ora: è ancora molto rudimentale, me ne rendo conto, ma per essere il primo fumetto che ho concluso (di più di 4 tavole si intende) posso dirmi più che soddisfatto. Cerco di non rivederlo troppe volte perché noto ancora alcuni errori (inguaribile perfezionista), e presto lo caricherò online sul mio blog:):)

Futuro Artigiano

Nothing changed at all

Basta un attimo e tutto può cambiare. E tutto crolla. Si creano confusione e disordine, non capisci più niente. Anche il tempo sembra essersi fermato in quell'istante. Nel giro di pochissimi giorni abbracci persone di cui non sapevi neanche l'esistenza, e delle quali non te ne frega un cazzo. Dicono frasi fatte costruite sulle circostanze, parole vuote a te che preferiresti stare da solo a rimettere insieme i pezzi. è stato uno schiaffo tanto doloroso quanto inaspettato, difficile da accettare e da credere vero.

Trascorsa l'onda, si rientra nella routine quotidiana. Tutto scorre, come se nulla fosse successo. è cambiato tutto e non è cambiato niente. Sembra non essere riusciti a dargli la giusta importanza. L'importanza che meritava.

L'unica grande paura, adesso, è dimenticare. Dimenticare la risata, dimenticare il calore, dimenticare la sicurezza, dimenticare il volto senza più stagioni.

Si guarda avanti. Si riparte da qui.

Questa illustrazione l'avevo disegnata l'estate scorsa (agosto 2015), sempre durante un momentaccio. Ma sembra acquisire più valore adesso per questo motivo: il 22.01.16 è venuto a mancare un mio parente, e la dedica di inizio post è in suo onore. Mi sono sentito di pubblicarla adesso, a distanza di due settimane, perché soltanto ora mi rendo conto di come il mondo continui a girare comunque, di come le giornate trascorrano inesorabili, come se davvero non fosse successo niente.

Non è giusto. Non lo è mai.

Ma non serve a niente lasciarsi trascinare dagli eventi. Possiamo andare oltre senza restare aggrappati al passato. Noi viviamo adesso e qui ed è questo che conta.

L'artista 2015

Dicembre è mese di cambiamenti e un'ondata di novità mi ha travolto frenando molti progetti personali in corso.
"L'artista 2015" era un'illustrazione che mi ballava in testa da parecchio tempo. Doveva nascere come sola fotografia (con me come protagonista ahah). Appena ho avuto un attimo libero ho buttato giù una bozza, e mi è piaciuto talmente tanto che ho deciso di mantenere il soggetto.
Ho allestito così un set sulla mia scrivania (vedi foto sul mio profilo Instagram nicola_opra94), scattato la foto e inserito questo fantomatico artista. Il resto è venuto da sé :)

Sono solo alcune delle persone morte quel maledetto venerdì 13 novembre. La cosa che mi mette ancora più tristezza è che alcuni di loro erano miei coetanei, giovanissimi con speranze e sogni ancora da realizzare.

Per quello che vale, voglio esprimere la mia più sincera solidarietà e vicinanza ai loro familiari e amici.

In conclusione voglio riportare un tweet che ho trovato significativo:

"My name is Omar. I am Muslim. I condemn the #ParisAttack. Over 1.5 bilion Muslims do. Please remember this."
